Supermarkets lose battle to
sell crossbred pork as pedigree pork. Labelling guidelines from
Trading Standards have been tightened to prevent supermarkets
selling pork from crossbred pigs masquerading as pedigree pork from
traditional or native breeds. In future if they want to use the name
of the breed on the packaging the pork will have to come from
pedigree parents. If it is from commercial hybrid sows and only
sired by a pedigree boar then it must be clearly labelled as
crossbred. If you see any suspicious labelling of pork claiming to
be pedigree please report it to Trading Standards.
